Stephen I have missed your watch reviews since the Hodinkee days and you have perfectly captured the emotional weight behind this watch because it’s really no just about watchmaking. It’s really about art.

The original GP Laureato was not designed by Genta, although it clearly owed much to him. The actual designer of the Laureato was, according to legend, a somewhat anonymous “Italian architect”. The current Laureato design moves slightly further away again, although it retains the signature octagonal bezel which, shall we say, leant heavily on another well-known Genta design of the early 70s.

Comment on Unimatic’s New Collection Introduces Its Smallest Watch Ever by J. Quincy Magoo https://revolutionwatch.com/unimatic-u5s-ml-modello-cinque-massena-lab/#comment-3584 Fri, 08 Dec 2023 04:14:23 +0000 https://revolutionwatch.com/?p=163343#comment-3584 I received an email from one, Massena Lab, introducing Unimatic’s new watch. Since I never gave my email nor signed up to receive news from this outfit, I asked them from where they got my email address. They responded with one word, calling me an “idiot”. I would caution anyone considering doing business with these dorks. They don’t deserve people’s business and they don’t deserve to be reviewed or rewarded for their outrageous behavior. They obviously don’t know or care about how they do business. It’s jerks like these that give the watch profession a bad name.

Comment on Stop Freaking Out About Patek’s Blingy New Watch by Craig L https://revolutionwatch.com/patek-philippe-aquanaut-luce-minute-repeater-rainbow/#comment-3240 Sat, 18 Nov 2023 17:38:34 +0000 https://revolutionwatch.com/?p=163045#comment-3240 Uproar about this feels very much like the whines about watch sizes. “Oh, they’re abandoning small models and going big!” or of course, the converse, “big watches are dead!”

These are massively specialized. They’ll never be made in large quantities because they *can’t* be…particularly this model. How long does it take to get matching sizes and shades for the different sections? To set them? What might the annual demand be? Not that high. Patek is offering a model for an unusual, small clientele…rather than letting someone else do it. But if they produce, what, MAYBE 100 per year? That’s out of 60,000…and I suspect 100 is seriously too high.
