Following up from the incredible success of our first collaboration with the critically acclaimed Fleurier-based brand, we are back with our second act, the Parmigiani Fleurier x Revolution Tonda PF Micro-Rotor “Purple Reign”. This time, we’ve managed to take the richly detailed dial of the Tonda PF and wrap it in a subtle, sophistiacted purple that spells quiet luxury. The dial shifts chameleon-like in color according to the light, from a gray-inflected claret to a deep ruby hue, expressing brand CEO Guido Terreni’s mastery of chromatic expression. Of course, while the dial is stealth luxe, the rest of the watch lives up to its glory, The 40mm steel case seamlessly flows into the steel bracelet, and thanks to the micro-rotor equipped PF caliber, it’s slender on the wrist, and probably the most perfectly proportioned, ergonomic and subtle, yet resplendently detailed integrated bracelet watch in existence today.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor “Serenissima” x Revolution & The Rake

Wei’s first encounter with the PF elicited a response that he had previously not associated with Parmigiani Fleurier — and that was unadulterated, uncut, never stepped on, 100-percent pure, unbridled desire. It is such a brilliant design — dynamically charged with enthralling minute nuances, from the miniature guilloché pattern on the dial to the micro-fluting on the platinum bezel, the hand polishing on the interior edges of the lugs that face the case, and the contrast between the tapering polished sections that flow into the sublimely brushed bracelet. When he finally got to try it on, he was hooked immediately. The PF was so damn appealing on the wrist. At 40mm in diameter and with a thickness of just 7.8mm, it creates a wonderful dynamic tension between a strong wrist presence counterpointed by a lithe Brâncuși-like elegance that makes it a pleasure to wear.

In creating this limited edition with a salmon dial — anyone following Revolution knows that Wei has always had a penchant for salmon dial — Guido Terreni was profoundly inspired by Le Corbusier and his color keyboards, first created in 1931. The architect believed in the harmony of colors and the way they affect space and mood. Says Terreni, “The color represents joy, energy and triumph. And as such, I think it is the perfect color to celebrate our survival of the shared experience of the last two years. Let’s make this a watch of hope, positivity and renewal.”

From there, Terreni began to experiment with just the right shade and eventually arrived at a color that, as Wei describes, “recalls Botticelli painting the first light rising over the Gulf of Venice, at the north of the Adriatic Sea.” Terreni has captured this perfectly, so much so that we have been referencing our collaborative Tonda PF Micro-Rotor watch as “Serenissima” or in English, “Serenity.”

Indeed, it is the perfect timepiece to have in that, thanks to its extraordinary ergonomics, it is blissful to wear. From a design perspective, it is representative of an all-new sports chic icon — and with this colored dial, a beacon of joy, energy and triumph. In other words, it is dopeness personified.
